At 1996, in the United States of America had its premiere the movie "Mars Attacks!" with: Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Annete Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Danny De Vito, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael J. Fox, Rod Steiger, Tom Jones, Lukas Haas, Nataly Portman, Jim Brown, Lisa Marie, Sylvia Sidney. The director was Tim Burton. But a lot of years before were the cards "Mars Attacks!". Precisely, the movie is based in this cards. The set of cards "Mars Attacks!" was published in the United States by The Topps Company, Inc. in august 1962. The set was 55 cards. They were sold in envelopes with a bubble gum and 3 cards.

The set "Marte Ataca!" was distributed in South America, in the spanish version, in the year 1964.
In Argentina, the cards was sold without the copyright in the reverse. Examples: 
 "These cards are 53 because the argentine government —in those days— CENSORED two of the pictures. Why ? Nobody knows. The cards no printed are the 11 "Destroy the city" and the 19 "Burning Flesh". Missing Cards
 In any case, in the argentine edition the numbers are correlatives, from 1 to 53. And this cards has the same format (8,7 x 6,4 centimeters) and the same design that the english version. The difficult card was "Destruyendo un perro" (Nº 34 in the spanish version) or "Destroying a dog" (Nº 36 in the english version). Today, there is not a real price of the complete set in spanish. We know an american set in mint conditions in Ebay Auctions ™ and Yahoo Auctions ™ was sold in approximately 2500 dolars. |
